Using Probes - Qualifying the Reference Probe

Qualifying the Reference Probe

Some digitizing devices require that a reference probe be designated to qualify other probes against. Typically this applies to devices that use probes with indexable probe heads such as bridge CMMs. When working with such devices, each Probe Set that you create in RevWorks must contain one Probe that is designated as the Reference Probe. The Reference Probe serves as a standard against which all other Probes in the Probe Set are qualified.

For such devices, you must qualify the Reference Probe under the following circumstances:

  • When you want to qualify additional Probes within a Probe Set

  • When you add new Probes to a Probe Set and want to switch between new Probes and previously qualified Probes

The greatest benefit of using indexable probe heads and a Reference Probe is that only the Reference Probe needs to be qualified to use the entire qualified set in the future as long as the probe head itself has not been changed or adjusted.

To Qualify the Reference Probe

  1. Access Probe Manager

  2. Locate the probe set that contains the Reference Probe that you want to qualify.

  3. Next to the  for the probe set, select to expand the list of probes in the probe set.

  4. Select the Reference Probe for the set, identified with .

The Reference Probe information appears in the right panel.

  1. Right click on the selected Reference Probe.

The Probe options pop-up menu appears.

  1. From the options menu, select Qualify,
or select a qualification option presented in the right panel display for the selected Reference Probe

Device-specific options are presented in a pop-up menu or the qualification process starts.

  1. Follow the device-specific instructions for qualifying the Reference Probe.

Once the qualification process is completed, updated qualification information is appears in the right panel.

For specific information on qualifying probes for you particular device see About Using Probe Manager With Your Digitizer and your digitizer documentation.
