Starting MicroScribe Digitizers

The MicroScribe Calibration Wizard also manages homing of your MicroScribe device and leads you through any necessary steps. In the case of MicroScribe 3D series digitizers, make sure that the device is seated in the proper home position:

  • The Default Probe is mounted on the stylus

  • The stylus is resting in the holder

  • The counterweight is resting against the stylus holder

  • The digitizer "tombstone" is rotated fully counter clockwise

When the stylus and attached probe rests in the holder, the counterweight rests against the stylus holder, and the arm "tombstone" is fully rotated counter clockwise, the digitizer is in home position. If you have to manually hold the counterweight, consider having your device serviced.

Warning: If you have a 6DOF device, which has an extra encoder that lets the stylus rotate, you must add one more step. For M devices, with the device in the normal home position, rotate the stylus beyond 360 degrees until the alignment markings on the encoder meet. G and 3D devices do not have alignment markings on the stylus and so if you wish to use non-axial probes with these devices, you must add your own alignment method in order to use non-axial probes.

  1. Make sure that your MicroScribe digitizer is properly connected.
