Configuring FARO USB Arm Characteristics

 

Several interface characteristics for the FARO USB arm can be adjusted to better suit your personal preferences including:

  • The use of stress stops and their sensitivity

  • Mouse movement and button assignment when the arm is used as a mouse

  • The use of an external trigger

To Configure FARO USB Arm Characteristics

  1. From the RevWorks toolbar, select ,
    or select Options… from the RevWorks menu.

The Options dialog appears

  1. Select the Current Devices tab.

  2. From the Current Device drop-down list box, select Faro USB if it is not already selected.

The Options tab automatically reflects configuration options for the FARO USB device.

  1. Select the Options tab.

If your FARO USB device is on and properly connected the Serial Number, Calibration Date, and Firmware Version are displayed.

  1. Select Arm Options to configure FARO USB arm characteristics.

The FARO USB Hardware Configuration dialog appears.

  1. Select values for the options provided:

Arm Trigger Mode: The default value is Internal. Select External if you are using an external trigger mechanism.

Stress Stops: Stress stops indicate when force above a specified threshold is being applied to any of the arm joints. This feature helps to increase measurement accuracy by warning you when too much force is being applied during a measurement. When the stress threshold has been exceeded for any joint a dialog displays, indicating the affected joint. Select or deselect Enable to control the use of Stress Stops. Specify a value for Sensitivity to control the stress threshold.

Arm Controlled Mouse: Select an Axis option to alter how arm movements affect mouse movements. Select a Back Button option to specify the action associated with the digitizer back button, which is the red button on the probe hand grip. Select the Tracking Speed to control how fast the mouse cursor moves in relation to a movement of the digitizer.

  1. Select OK to accept the changes.

    Note: In order to use the device as a mouse the Use arm as mouse when not digitizing option on the device options page must be selected.
