About Romer Digitizers
Romer digitizers are rugged, articulated portable measurement arms. The complete Romer product line features several models ranging in size, accuracy, and freedom-of-movement configurations. Romer arms support reproducible probe exchange, allowing any number of distinct probes to be used. A unique probe interchange feature of the Romer devices allows any number of specialized probes to be used without need for recalibration each time a probe is mounted. In order to use a Romer digitizer with RevWorks, you must perform the following procedures:
Romer digitizers maintain a set coordinate system within their internal registers. Most current Romer probes incorporate "smart" technology which allows RevWorks to determine which probe is attached. This reduces the time and effort needed to change out probes during a digitizing session.
RevWorks communicates with Romer digitizers using either USB or serial device interfaces. All aspects of arm operation and interaction are the same whether you are using USB or serial communications. A current version of the Romer WinRDS software is required to use RevWorks with Romer devices. If you have a version of WinRDS earlier than 2.3.5 a Romer security hardware key is also required. For version 2.3.5 or later you do not need to have a Romer hardware security lock unless you wish to use the arm with other software supplied by Romer. Version 3.0 or later of WinRDS is required to use USB communications with a Romer arm. Please refer to the Romer operation manuals for specific information on the care and upkeep of your device.
