Configuring HyperTerminal for Communication with the 3DCreator Interface Controller

 

The Windows HyperTerminal terminal emulation program is suitable for doing maintenance communication with the 3DCreator interface controller. This task leads you through the process of configuring communications for the first time. Once HyperTerminal is configured, you can easily start interactive communication with the interface controller by simply selecting an item that the configuration process adds to your Windows program menu.

To Configure HyperTerminal for Communication with the 3DCreator Interface Controller

  1. Start HyperTerminal.

The HyperTerminal user interface is displayed and the Connection Description dialog is presented.

    Note: If you are using Windows XP, HyperTerminal can be started from the Start Bar by selecting Program Files->Accessories->Communications->HyperTerminal.

  1. Enter a name for the connection, such as "3DCreator".

  2. Choose an icon you wish to have associated with the connection or accept the default selection.

  3. Select OK.

The Connect To dialog is displayed.

  1. Ignore all the edit fields and select the communications port to which the 3DCreator is connected from the Connect using drop down list.

All of the other fields are grayed out.

  1. Select OK.

The COM# Properties dialog displays, where COM# is the comport you selected in the previous step.

  1. Select 115200 from the list of values for Bits per second.

  2. Leave the default values for Data bits (8), Parity (None), Stop bits (1), and Flow control (Hardware).

  3. Select OK.

A communications session is started on the selected communications port and HyperTerminal starts listening.

  1. From the File menu choose Save.

The connection document is saved to disk and an associated item is placed in the Start Bar menu at Program Files->Accessories->Communications->HyperTerminal->3DCreator.ht.

    Note: The actual name of the .ht file is the name you provided in step 2 above.

    Note: To restart the connection as configured here select the file name under the HyperTerminal directory menu item as described in step 10.
