Using Datums - Measuring Datums

Measuring Datums

Before a Datum can be used for the first time it must be measured. You must also re-measure Datums when the part of digitizer have been moved and generally any time that the integrity of the relationship between the part and digitizer is questionable, such as after shutting down and restarting your digitizing station. Datums provide a method for re-establishing the desired part coordinate system. The reproducibility of a Datum is dependent on the type of Datum employed, the accuracy of your digitizer and the reproducibility of the geometry used in creating the Datum.

Datums are a very powerful tool for controlling part data acquisition and assuring data integrity. RevWorks supports three classes of Datums, each having its own measurement characteristics. Please review the following topics to learn more about measuring the specific Datum types:

  1. Measuring Base Planes
  1. Measuring a Three-Point Datum
  1. Measuring a Three-Sphere Datum
  1. Measuring a Custom Datum
