Using Datums - Selecting the Datum Base Plane

Selecting the Datum Base Plane

The base plane selection for a datum indicates which of the three primary SOLIDWORKS plans your measured datum is aligned with. In previous versions of RevWorks, datums were always aligned to the Front plane. With this release of RevWorks you may choose Front, Top, or Right planes.

To Select the Datum Base Plane

  1. Access Alignment Manager

  2. Left click on the Datum item for which you wish to set the base plane.

The current options for the Datum appear in the right hand pane of Alignment Manager.

  1. In the Base Plane group, select the radio button associated with the plane you wish to use as the base plane for this datum.

The new plane designation is indicated by the radio button.

  1. If the datum has been previously measured, select the Yes button in response to the displayed information dialog to accept the change or No to abort the selection.

Note: If you have changed the name of the primary planes in SOLIDWORKS, those name changes are not reflected in the names used to identify the planes presented in the datum options pane. The order of the planes in the Base Plane group is the same as the order of the planes as presented in the SOLIDWORKS feature tree. To select the second plane in the SOLIDWORKS list as the datum base plane, for example, select the second plane presented in the Base Plane list.
