I Get Error 'Unable to Create and Connect to Instance of RevWorks Toolbar'

The error message 'Unable to Create and Connect to Instance of the RevWorks Toolbar' occurs if RevWorks cannot make the necessary changes to your machine’s registry during installation. This often happens if the RevWorks install is not run ‘As Administrator’.

To resolve this, please do the following:

  1. Uninstall RevWorks from your computer
  2. Locate the RevWorks.exe you wish to install
  3. Right-click on the .exe and select ‘Run as Administrator’

This should create the correct registry entry so that RevWorks can run with 2021.

Alternately, you can run a batch file called RegServer.bat located in your RevWorks installation folder (the default location is C:\Program Files\Revware\RevWorks).  In order to make the change to your registry (pictured below):

  1. Close SOLIDWORKS
  2. Open a Command Prompt using the ‘Command Prompt’ app.  NOTE: Be sure to right-click on the app and run 'As Administrator'
  3. At the prompt, type cd \Program Files\Revware\Revworks and select ‘Enter'
  4. Type RevTools.exe -RegServer and select ‘Enter'
  5. If your computer has sound, you should hear a two-tone indicator that the file ran
  6. Re-open SOLIDWORKS.  The RevWorks toolbar should open


If the RevWorks toolbar does not pop up, in SOLIDWORKS navigate to Tools>Add-Ins>Other Add-Ins and be sure that the RevWorks check box is checked.
