About DirectSurf Preferences
DirectSurf is a RevWorks feature method that allows you to directly create smooth surface patch features by collecting random data on a part surface. DirectSurf is intended for the collection of surface patches, not complete part surfaces. For best results, the curvature of the surface should not exceed more than an arc of approximately 120 degrees across the surface.
To create a surface feature, the collected data is compared to a reference plane. A projection of the data points to the plane is used to determine an appropriate boundary for the surface patch. For best results, before the start of data collection you should pre-select a plane that closely approximates the orientation of the patch to be collected. If you do not pre-select a plane one is approximated from the data collected for the surface patch. Relying on this internal approximation may produce less desirable results than manually selecting a preferred reference plane.
Several options are provided for controlling the characteristics of surface patches.
