Importing Point Files
RevWorks automatically creates a new 3D sketch each time you choose to import a point file. Each imported point is added into the SOLIDWORKS 3D sketch as a point entity and is fully editable. There is a practical limit o the number of points that can be added to SOLIDWORKS without degrading performance that varies between systems and is subject to your own preferences. RevWorks provides a feature to systematically reduce the number of points in an import file, called decimation, which you can apply to import a reduced sampling of the data in a large file.
To Import a Point File
Select Import Points… from the SOLIDWORKS File menu or from the RevWorks menu.
The RevWorks – Import Points dialog displays.
Navigate to the directory where the file is located and select it from the list of available files, or enter it in the File Name field.
Set the Units of measure if required.
Choose a Decimation percentage if desired.
Select the Open button to start the importing process.
RevWorks creates a new 3D sketch and begins importing the point data. You may stop the process before completion by pressing the Cancel button on the displayed progress dialog.
