Creating Open Profiles

Open profiles have no connecting link between their first and last segments.

RevWorks creates profiles from a set of three or more digitized points. Profiles are features created with a series of tangent lines and arcs. Profiles are calculated after all of the desired data for inclusion is collected. You can adjust how tightly the arcs and lines are fitted to the collected data to control the smoothness of the profile and its number of arc and line components. Generally, the tighter the fit desired the greater the number of arcs and lines generated to complete the profile. SOLIDWORKS tangency relations are automatically added to the features created.

To Create an Open Profile

  1. From the RevWorks toolbar, select ,
or from the RevWorks toolbar right click on any displayed Profile icon and choose Open,
or select Profile > Open from the RevWorks menu in SOLIDWORKS.

RevWorks prompts you to begin digitizing points.

  1. Digitize a minimum of three points.

Note: RevWorks automatically creates the profile feature once you digitize the maximum number of points.

  1. If you collect more than three points, but less than the maximum number of points for a profile, select or another completion option to calculate the feature.

RevWorks generates an open profile from the collected data and draws it on the active SOLIDWORKS sketch plane, including tangent relations.
