Creating Closed 3D Curves

RevWorks creates closed 3D curves from a set of three or more digitized points. This type of curve may also be referred to as a non-planar curve. 3D curves are created in true 3D space, not projected to a 2D sketch plane. Closed 3D curves differ from closed 3D splines by being created outside of SOLIDWORKS 3D sketch planes and appearing as independent elements in the SOLIDWORKS feature tree. Closed 3D curves have a beginning and end points that are coincident and have tangent curvature

RevWorks does not compensate closed 3D curves even if probe compensation is activated.

To Create a Closed 3D Curve

  1. From the RevWorks toolbar, select ,
or from the RevWorks toolbar right click on any displayed Spline or Curve icon and choose Curve > Closed,
    or select
Spline > Curve > Closed from the RevWorks menu in SOLIDWORKS.

RevWorks prompts you to begin digitizing points.

  1. Digitize a minimum of three points.

Note: RevWorks automatically creates the closed 3D curve feature once you digitize the maximum number of points.

  1. If you collect more than three points, but less than the maximum number of points for a curve, select or another completion option to calculate the feature.

RevWorks generates a closed 3D curve from the collected data and places it into the SOLIDWORKS model space.
