About Features
A feature is a primary shape, such as a line or arc that you digitize from a part. You create features in RevWorks by collecting point data. RevWorks automatically uses your point data to generate the feature you want. RevWorks provides you with a variety of ways to create some features. For example, you can create a line from collected point data or from the intersection of two planes.
You can define the number of points you want to use when generating a feature. This is especially helpful when you want to enhance total accuracy. The more points you take the greater your overall accuracy. Plus, you can choose to create one feature, or multiple features, at the same time. In order to create a feature, you must digitize the minimum number of points required for that feature. For example, if you want to create a circle, you must digitize a minimum of 3 points.
When you create a feature, you digitize the feature directly onto a SOLIDWORKS sketch plane, a 3D sketch plane or directly into the SOLIDWORKS model space, depending on the type of feature. You can put multiple features on a single SOLIDWORKS sketch plane, and you can edit the features using the standard SOLIDWORKS tools. You can create SOLIDWORKS features, such as holes, bosses and thickened surfaces, directly from the data that you collect in RevWorks. RevWorks calculates features using best-fit algorithms to achieve maximum precision. Your digitizer may have multiple options by which to collect data, such as a mechanical trigger in the form of a button or foot pedal. If your digitizer has one or more triggers (buttons/pedals), use the primary button to collect points, the secondary button to complete data collection, and the tertiary button to delete points starting with the most recent.
