Collecting Data for Sketch Features

RevWorks collects data you select for 2D features and projects the points onto the active sketch plane. Points that are collected off of the surface are projected perpendicularly to the sketch. This allows you the capability of easily capturing profile geometries, such as hole and boss sections, at the intersection with a planar surface even thought the data you collect is not actually on the edge. RevWorks computes and places the generated feature on the active sketch.

To Collect Data for a Sketch Feature

  1. Open a part file, if applicable.

  2. Select a SOLIDWORKS plane, sketch, or planar part surface that defines the target data collection plane.

If you select a plane or planar part surface, RevWorks creates a new sketch plane. If you select a sketch, RevWorks uses the sketch you choose.

Note: If you do not select a plane, sketch, or planar part surface to receive data, RevWorks displays a message informing you to select one before continuing.

  1. From the RevWorks toolbar, select the data collection mode you want to use: for single point mode or  for scan point mode.

  2. From the RevWorks toolbar or menu in SOLIDWORKS, select the type of 2D feature you want to create.

RevWorks prompts you to begin collecting data.

  1. Pressing the spacebar on your keyboard or the primary button on your digitizer or auxiliary switch, digitize the minimum number of points required to create the feature.

RevWorks provides audio feedback for every point that you digitize and draws the point on the current sketch plane.

Note: You can customize sounds for many events, such as: collecting data, completing feature calculation, and deleting data. For more information, see Managing RevWorks Sounds.
