Collecting Data for Datums and Origins
Collecting Data for Datums and Origins
RevWorks creates Datums and
Origins from digitized point data that
you collect. Datums allow you to orient the part in a preferred way for
presentation inside of SOLIDWORKS. RevWorks uses the data
that you collect for datums to relate coordinates on the part you are digitizing
to the SOLIDWORKS model being created. Datums create a complete part coordinate system. Origins allow the
coordinate system of the device to be used, but define an alternative origin
within the device coordinate system.
A part file does not have to be
open in order to collect data and
create a Datum or Origin. The active Datum or Origin applies to any and all part files that are opened while the Datum or Origin is active. For more information on measuring Datums or Origins please
see:

RevWorks provides audio
feedback for every point that you digitize. Points taken while digitizing datums
in RevWorks are not displayed.

Measuring a Sphere Origin A Three-Sphere Datum is defined by three distinct locations taken around the part to be digitized or on a custom jig placed in relationship to the part. The centers of the three spheres define a plane which maps to the ...

Measuring a Point Origin A Point Origin is defined by one distinct point location taken from the part to be digitized or the jig that holds it. The point defines a location that maps to the SOLIDWORKS model space origin. You must measure a single ...

Using Datums - About Datums
About Datums Datums are alignment objects that fully orient a physical part to one of the primary views in the SOLIDWORKS coordinate system. Your digitizing device has its own internal coordinate system also known as the "device coordinate system". ...
