Scanning 3D Features in Scan Point Mode
The points that you digitize for a 3D sketch, curve, or surface are in true 3D SOLIDWORKS model space. Point data collected for 3D features is placed into a 3D sketch. When operating in 3D scan point mode, data may be constantly streaming or limited by the activation of one or more collection filters. Current scan mode collection filters limit the amount of data collected by distance. Additional filters are planned for future releases of RevWorks.
Once completed, 3D features are placed into the same 3D sketch into which the base point data was collected. Surfaces are placed in model space as reference surfaces without the creation of additional 3D sketches. For parametric surfaces, sectional 2D sketches are automatically derived from the base reference surface and a lofted feature is created that incorporates these sketches. In the case of 3D curves, both the base point data and the resulting feature are placed in the SOLIDWORKS model space without creating sketches.
To Collect 3D Features in Scan Point Mode
From the RevWorks toolbar, select ,
or select Collection Mode > Snap Scan on the RevWorks menu in SOLIDWORKS.
The data collection mode button changes to , the collection mode indicator on the toolbar changes to

Right mouse-click .
The scan point mode option menu appears.
Select the Scan Options menu option.
The Scan Options dialog is displayed.
Select and enter values for the desired 3D collection filters.

Note: Minimum Point Separation only affects the generation of splines and curves. This value limits how closely you must place points to each other in order to make the spline. Points that fall closer together are discarded before the spline is created. This helps to prevent the creation of ‘spaghetti’ splines. |
