Can old MicroScribe arms be repaired?
Some legacy MicroScribe arms contain end-of-life components and can no longer be repaired.
These devices can, however, be upgraded. Upgraded MicroScribes have the same accuracy as the model to which they are upgraded, and are covered by a 1-year manufacturer's warranty, just like a new MicroScribe.
Please note that upgrades cover internal electronics only. Damage to housings, tubes, and accessories (such as the probe) is not included.
MicroScribe 3D
The red 3D
series MicroScribe arms can no longer be calibrated due
to end-of-life components. When they require
repair, the only
option is to replace all internal electronic components. To get pricing for a 3D to G series upgrade, please contact us at

- How do I know if I have a MicroScribe 3D?
MicroScribe 3D models can be identified by their dark red color and the absence of a USB port on the back of the base. If you have a dark red unit that has a USB port, that indicates that the MicroScribe has already been upgraded.
CMS M Series
Immersion CMS (non-RoHS) M series MicroScribe arms contain end-of life circuit boards. Single board failures of these MicroScribe systems cannot be repaired because
of
obsolete component incompatibility

How do I know if I have a CMS M MicroScribe?
CMS MicroScribe models are the same dark blue color as the current MicroScribe M series. Identification is made by looking at the serial number label on the bottom of the device. The text on the upper left corner of the label will read either "CMS-" or "MS-" followed by the MicroScribe model. "CMS" indicates that an upgrade is required in the event of a board failure.
- What if the problem isn't a board failure?
Non-circuit board repairs of CMS M units do not require an upgrade, and are evaluated on an individual basis.
